Walking Meditation

The steps we repeatedly tread will surely form a permanent path. The same can be said about everything from our reactions to our habits. knowing this, finding peace in the silence, observing ourselves and spending time in nature can allow us to consciously steer a course, apposed to being windswept by the current, leaving our fate to chance. A miniature world framed within a circular shadow box. A symmetrical bone mandala made from real snake bones, while below, a tiny wandering figure moves through a soft sandy scene. Mother-of-Pearl Legged Jewelry Box: Mandarin Duck Pair on Abalone-Shell Ground

This piece is chosen by those who recognize that the finest decorative objects do not merely hold precious things, but become precious through the intelligence of their making. “Raised slightly above the ground, the box begins to behave less like an object of storage than like a small ceremonial presence.” Made by Park In-ho, this mother-of-pearl jewelry box is compelling first because of its structure. The legged form is not incidental. Most jewelry boxes rest directly on a base, affirming their practical role as containers. This one is lifted. That elevation matters. By setting the body upon four shaped legs, the artisan separates the box from ordinary furniture logic and gives it a more formal and architectural bearing. It was made in this way so that the object would possess not only function, but stance. That stance immediately increases the technical challenge. Korean mother-of-pearl inlay depends on the controlled use of extremely thin shell pieces, cut and arranged so that they lie with precision across the lacquered surface. Flat planes are already demanding. Curved supports are more so. The legs of this box are not left plain as secondary elements, but are fully ornamente

Mother-of-Pearl Maebyeong Vase: Grand-Scale, Grape and Peony Motifs

This piece is chosen by those who understand that richness may be held within discipline, and that an object can disclose itself slowly. “The garden does not remain upon the surface; it moves with the light and continues beyond the eye.” This Korean maebyeong is conceived as a vessel to be read in rotation. Its form appears calm and self-contained from a distance: a small mouth, a full upper body, a narrowing waist, and a firmly grounded base. Yet the surface resists a single frontal interpretation. Peonies, grapevines, leaves, fruit, and birds pass around the body in a continuous sequence, making movement around the vessel an essential part of viewing it. The maebyeong form is particularly suited to this unfolding composition. Its broad shoulder provides space for the larger blossoms and spreading leaves, while the narrowing lower body draws stems, clusters, and smaller motifs into a more concentrated rhythm. The structure therefore guides the imagery. What appears expansive above becomes gathered below, allowing the visual abundance to remain contained within the discipline of the silhouette. The shellwork ground has been assembled from numerous small, dark blue pieces. Seen clos

Celadon Vessel: Relief-Applied Pensive Bodhisattva Motif

“A quiet gesture carved in clay—where serenity takes form in silence.” This extraordinary celadon vase captures the contemplative spirit of the Pensive Bodhisattva, delicately brought to life through a rare additive technique developed by the artisan himself. Unlike typical relief carving, this method—known in Korean as 덧붙임—involves sculpting with a separate clay body directly onto the vessel’s surface by hand. The result is not merely decorative, but deeply sculptural: a meditative figure that seems to rise gently from the jade-green glaze, casting shadows that shift softly with the light. The work is formed from celadon clay (청자토) for the base body and a specially formulated additive clay (조합토) for the applied sculpture. These clays have differing moisture levels and shrink rates, making their union extremely fragile. The artisan must synchronise the drying phases with exacting care; any misstep in timing may lead to cracking or detachment during the kiln process. The firing itself is another trial: the piece requires a kiln time up to 1.5 times longer than standard celadon, allowing the deep crackled glaze to mature while stabilising the hand-applied elements. Trestle Table

The Marcel Trestle Table is a sculptural dining table designed by Robin and Stephen Alesch for Marcel, the restaurant created by Roman and Williams in partnership with Sotheby’s, located within the historic Breuer Building. The table reflects a disciplined approach to structure, material, and proportion. A solid hardwood top rests on a carefully proportioned trestle base. Subtle edge profiling softens the visual mass, while exposed brass standoffs reveal the construction with quiet precision. The structure is expressed clearly, emphasizing durability and material integrity. Strong architectural proportions balance solidity with refinement. The table’s presence recalls the material directness associated with Brutalist design while maintaining the warmth and tactility of natural hardwood. The result is a form that feels both grounded and enduring. Each piece is individually crafted in sustainably sourced hardwoods and finished by hand. Natural variations in grain, tone, and texture are inherent to the material and contribute to the singular character of every work. This piece is made to order. Lead time is approximately 12 - 14 weeks.
