The Spiky Stool
A hybrid piece that functions as both a stool and a side table. Sculpted from pine and carefully charred, this work explores the balance between function and form. Its serrated silhouette evokes both strength and fragility, transforming a familiar object into a sculptural presence. Each curve carries the trace of fire and hand, revealing a quiet tension between softness and resistance, a poetic, almost romantic dialogue with its own spiked form, where danger and delicacy coexist. Sourced from Igor Zigor family lands in Quebec, the wood is selected and harvested by hand, fostering a direct relationship to material, place, and process. This approach embraces an alternative to industrial production, one rooted in time, care, and responsibility. No two pieces are identical. Variations in grain, tone, and charring emerge naturally from the wood itself, giving each object a distinct character shaped by its origin and making. Part of an ongoing exploration into form, tension, and material transformation, this piece reflects a broader investigation into the language of craft.
