OOAK Brutalist Bamboo Armchair 1970s

A one-of-a-kind artist-built bamboo armchair from the 1970s, conceived less as conventional furniture than as an individual exercise in structure and construction. Thick bamboo uprights are pierced directly by the frame, with projecting members secured by hand-cut wooden pegs. The joints remain fully visible, turning the method of assembly into the defining feature of the chair and giving its simple materials an unexpectedly monumental presence. The geometric woven seat and back temper the monumental frame, placing the chair between Brutalist design, vernacular craft and functional sculpture.
