Dziu

This gorgeous piece is inspired by the bird Molothrus bonariensis, called "dziú" in the Maya language of the Yucatán Peninsula. The Dziú artifact is part of the Black Sculpture Series, made of wood burned in the yakisugi style, designed by Lørdag & Søndag in Mexico City and executed by master César Zamorano of Torno Tonalá, in the city of Tonalá, Jalisco. Fun fact: According to the Maya myth, the dziú's black plumage is due to it being burned while saving the corn kernels from a great fire, preserving this vital crop for humanity. 6.2 ft (h) x 2 ft (w)
